Jocelyn, Site Manager
"An excellent compromise between private and public"
You are a "Site manager". What does your job involve?
I manage and supervise work carried out by external companies. My field is primarily electrical distribution and, preparing for this work, I ensure that their activities cause no disruption to the smooth operation of the airport or to passenger comfort (for example, as a result of breaks in the power supply).
My role is also to timetable and plan my colleagues' work schedules. Lastly, it goes without saying that I have to ensure that such installations comply with the requirements of customers and terminal operators, for example.
What are the attractions of this job and what qualities does it require?
I enjoy this job because of the human contact element. Alongside this, and apart from the technical skills inherent in the position, this job needs a person who has organisational skills, can respond quickly to problems and is available and ready to explain the reasons for which "problems" may and do occur.
What made you choose Aéroports de Paris?
It is a large company that naturally offers a greater potential for career development than most others. Also, the current growth in airport expansion needs state-of-the-art technologies. Having spent 10 years in the private sector followed by 5 in the public sector, Aéroports de Paris seemed an excellent professional compromise to me insofar at it offers a salary comparable to that within the private sector whilst recognising my skills and achievements from the point of view of the public sector.
What was your integration into the company like?
There were no "mentors" for my kind of post. On the other hand, I was taken on with a view to replacing a retiring colleague and, as such, was supported and supervised for 9 months by the person whose position I was to take over. Consequently, it was not long before my superiors placed their trust in me and I quickly and independently rose up the ladder.
You have been at Aéroports de Paris for 2 years. How do you see your future within the company?
In theory, the post I have would naturally lead to executive positions and the financial management of projects.
Tell us what your working environment is like (atmosphere, relations with line managers, information etc.)
Truly exceptional. It would be great if everyone had the same experience.
